My 18 year Generation Theory based on Cultural, Historical, and Technological Events

2020.09.01 13:55 RELFantasticMaize2 My 18 year Generation Theory based on Cultural, Historical, and Technological Events

I decided to come back since this generation topic is just so interesting. Anyways, this is my generation theory. This will be my take on how I view each generation, based on 8 year pure cohorts and 10 year spectrums. Some of you may have seen a similar post like this in the past, as this is a repost, since I deleted the original post, with added notable people, and percentages of each generation. For those of you who have never seen the original post, in my opinion, I feel generations aren’t very clear cut and don’t evolve overnight. I don’t think people who are 15-17 years apart will share the exact same generation traits. I believe in 8 year solid cohorts, where the years that make up the quintessential part of the generation can be found. For Baby Boomers, it’s 1950-1957, for Gen X, its 1968-1975, for Millennials it’s 1986-1993, and for Gen Z, its 2004-2011. Everything else in between is a spectrum transitioning from one generation to the next. With these spectrums, every year, traits from the previous generation start to die off and new traits start to form, which would help lay the foundation for the next generation. With that out of the way, let’s begin:

2019.07.12 10:50 ntr4ctr I'm sorry sir, but you are not a "ma'am"

Did you see the video footage? A customer in a game store, a transgender woman, is livid. (In case you forgot, a transgender woman is a biological male who identifies as female.) The customer claims that the cashier called him “sir,” and the customer demands an apology, shouting, “It’s ‘ma’am!” The customer even challenges the cashier to a fight. What’s wrong with this picture?
Amanda Prestigiacomo on the Daily Wire paints the picture.
The video starts with the trans individual cussing out the male GameStop clerk after being offered store credit rather than a refund.
"I don't want credit, you're going to give me my f***ing money back," the customer yells.
A woman not in the view of the camera took issue with the trans person's vulgar language.
"Excuse me, sir, there's a young man in here — you need to watch your mouth," she says in a calm voice.
The trans person instantly becomes aggressive, screaming, "Excuse me — it is ma'am! It is ma'am!"
The two customers interact, after which the trans customer resumes his attack on the cashier, who denies calling him “sir.”
The enraged customer responds: “No, you said, 'sir'; once again, it's ma'am! Mother fer! Take it outside! You wanna call me 'sir' again? I will show you a fing sir!"
To repeat the question: What’s wrong with this picture?
First, when you watch the video, it’s immediately clear that the customer is a man who identifies as a woman. He is sir by birth, even if he now identifies as female.
Listen to his voice and look at his face.
He can take hormones and grow breasts. He can surgically alter other parts of his body.
That still does not make him “ma’am.”
This is not to deny that some men have very feminine characteristics, by nature, and that some women have very masculine characteristics, again, by nature.
It is just to say that this transgender woman is not a biological female. This “sir” is not “ma’am.”
Second, listen to his challenge. It is the challenge of an angry male. “Take it outside! You wanna call me 'sir' again? I will show you a f***ing sir!"
Yes, young man, you call me sir and I will show you how much of a sir I really am! Let’s take this outside!
Again, this is not to deny that some women get into fights. Some do “take it outside.”
But overwhelmingly, this is aggressive male behavior. This transgender woman’s angry, inner male came roaring back to the surface when his femaleness was challenged.
This is as sad as it is ironic, and it reminiscent of another “transgender woman,” a male war veteran who now goes by the name “Zoey,” threatening Ben Shapiro when Ben asked him what his genetics were. Zoey put his hand on Ben’s neck, looked him in the eye, and said, “You cut that out now or you’ll go home in an ambulance.” Zoey’s inner-male rose up again!
This is also reminiscent of what happened to me when I was on the Tyra Banks show in 2010, discussing the issue of transgender children. Sitting next to me for the discussion was Dr. Marci Bowers, himself a male-to-female who is considered the rock star of sex-change surgery.
You’ll notice in the video that Dr. Bowers gently puts his hand on me a couple of times when making his points, similar to Zoey and Ben Shapiro, although in a non-aggressive fashion. It was what Dr. Bowers said to me before the show that got my attention.
I was chatting briefly with him and Kim Pearson, a heterosexual woman who is an activist for the transgender cause and was also going to be on the show.
Dr. Bowers said to me in a challenging voice, “Are you going to be able handle this?” (meaning, taking on the two of them on the air).
It didn’t dawn on me then, but as I flew home with my colleague, Scott, I said to him, “I just realized that Dr. Bowers gave me a macho challenge before the show!” On a certain level, he was calling me out. The inner male lived on.
During the show, Scott was sitting in the audience next to several other trans women, although they had no idea Scott was with me. One of them got so angry when I was speaking that he turned to his friend and said, “I wish I had brought a gun in my purse. I would shoot him!” How ladylike!
Of course, there are women who carry guns and women who start fights and women who say, “Let’s take this outside!”
But when you watch the video from the game store and when you watch the Ben Shapiro video, once thing is abundantly clear. These are males, not females, as their chromosomes and cells will attest.
As we come to the end of 2018, it’s good to remind ourselves of these realities.
As much as we have compassion on those who genuinely struggle with their gender identity. As much as we do not minimize their pain. As much as we want them to find wholeness. We do not collaborate with social madness.
And I say that with all respect, sir.

2018.11.01 05:28 DrMantisToboggan2112 A *Halloween* Fan's Ranking & Thoughts of the Franchise After Binge-Watching

Happy Halloween fellow horror lovers!
I have just finished binging the Halloween franchise over two days, including having seen Halloween (2018) 3 times since release. I've seen these movies all before, but after going through one by one, my personal ranking of the franchise has changed. I'm sure a few spots on my list will give some Dredditors pause, but I'm all about debate. So here goes:
1) Halloween (1978)
2) Halloween (2018)
3) Halloween 4
4) Halloween III: Season of the Witch
5) Halloween 2
6) Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
7) RZ's Halloween
8) RZ's Halloween 2
9) Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers
10) Halloween: H20
11) Halloween: Resurrection.
Elaboration on Rankings:
• I know people love H20, but I just can't get into it. Don't dig the story, location, mask(s), anything really. Did love that they attempted to kill Myers off, period.
• Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks in Resurrection. That's not my bag. Can't get into this one either. Laurie's death at the beginning is criminally bad.
• Halloween 5. Myers' look is just not right. How he stands with the knife, how he walks, his slicked back hair, etc. The crying in the attic completely kills the Michael character in this movie for me. Even when driving a car, he really takes his damn time. They also (spoiler) kill off Rachel with almost zero dramatic affect. RIP the 2nd most important character from the last film.
• Just watched Halloween 2 & 4 back-to-back. I think 4 holds up better, actually. The cinematography makes it feel like Halloween. The opening sequence is awesome and I love some of the kills. The worst part about 4, unfortunately, is Myers' look itself. Myers with shoulder pads and a garbage mask - disappointing. As far as Halloween 2, I don't think Dick Warlock has the right menacing attitude/walk for Myers. Some of the chase sequences don't hold up that well. Myers reeeaallly takes his time walking in this one.
Curse, for pure entertainment value (i.e. turn your brain off and watch) is a lot of fun. The story is completely bananas and is total dumpster fire, but I'll be damned if this pissed off, murderous version of Myers isn't what I like. The scenes in Smith's Grove at the end are really well done imo, especially when he's let loose and kills the entire operating staff. Bad ass, man. The cinematography/set pieces are really well done at the beginning of the movie with all the leaves and Autumn-feel. Again, the story is complete trash.
Halloween (2018) will, I feel, age very well. Old man Myers is my favorite Myers, probably even more than 21yr old Michael in '78. He's ruthless in 2018, with the right walk and kills. I think DGG, DM, Blumhouse, and everyone involved nailed it with the newest Halloween, and I cannot wait to own it on 4K. Tremendous, my 2nd fav. in the franchise without question.
If you got this far, thanks for reading. It took many years and much thought to "finalize" my list and thoughts on this otherwise confused and misguided franchise.
tl;dr - 1) Halloween (1978), 2) Halloween (2018), 3) Halloween 4, 4) Halloween III: Season of the Witch, 5) Halloween 2, 6) Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, 7) RZ's Halloween, 8) RZ's Halloween 2, 9) Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, 10) Halloween: H20, 11) Halloween: Resurrection.

2018.05.20 22:47 Eren_ 180520 BTS @ the 2018 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) (10PM GMT Red Carpet, 12AM GMT Ceremony) Megathread

BTS has won Top Social Artist Award!

Because the sub will be receiving so many small posts and questions about the BBMAs, we're putting up and sticky-ing this megathread early to contain it. Post all questions, discussions etc. related to the BBMAs here.

The 2018 Billboard Music Awards will be held in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA and will be broadcast live in the United States on the TV network NBC. Red Carpet starts at 10PM GMT, show begins at 12AM GMT, and ends at approximately 2:30AM GMT. List of announced performers so far.

If you are in the USA and have cable, you can watch the RED CARPET on E! starting at 6pm EST, and the MAIN SHOW on NBC starting at 8pm EST. NBC should be around channel 5 (more or less), as it’s a local channel.
Note: It might not be listed as “NBC” in the channel guide (from dorkprincess: I have Comcast Xfinity) it was listed like “WRCD” or something but it IS in fact NBC, with the NBC logo in the corner and everything lol).
  • There is also an NBC live stream on their website if you have no actual television around you, however you will need to log in to verify your cable subscription. There are some geographical restrictions though.
  • You might also be able to stream it on your computer by logging into your account for your cable provider and using the Live TV option that livestreams channels you have access to. I know this is possible with Comcast, as I've tried it, but there should be similar options for other providers.
  • E! has a live stream of the red carpet on their website, again you need to sign in using your cable provider to make it work (click on the video and it'll prompt you to sign in)

The show/red carpet might also be airing on E!, TNT, or TLC internationally, check your local listings.
We will update with any other streams as we find them so that our international friends will be able to watch.

If all links are dead and this post has not been updated yet, please check the comments for more streams.

  • Discord information listed on the wiki. Remember that all rules of the sub apply. Refer to the rules in the welcome category channels and #announcements on the server for more info.
TL;DR: Message r_BangtanDiscord to get the server invite link. Be mindful of the rules to avoid being banned.

2018.05.18 06:51 llaverna TEAR English Press Coverage Megathread

All English language press coverage related to the comeback is compiled here. If you don't see an article mentioned, please leave the link as a comment and it will be added in!
Note: If it’s from a very notable outlet, such as Rolling Stone, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, etc. it can have its own thread. Outlets that commonly report about BTS (like Fuse or Billboard), or don’t have the same kind of readership/reputation as the aforementioned outlets will be redirected here.
Note II: The usual rules regarding articles and clickbait apply. Articles that would normally belong in the weekly thread are listed here, but blatant clickbait, blog posts by other than professional journalists, and articles from blacklisted domains still won't be.
